Purple Pain: Did Tyler Perry Almost Get Sued by Prince?

The media mogul shares a crazy memory about the music legend.

Tyler Perry may be in the running for having the craziest story about meeting the legendary Prince. Like many, the media mogul took to social media early this morning to share an anecdote about his first interaction with the Purple One: when he got a call directly from Prince threatening to sue him.

Perry recalls an evening twelve years ago, when he was scheduled to perform one of his live shows in Los Angeles, which included a rendition of "Purple Rain," and Prince blew up his cellphone. "I answered and heard a voice that almost made me wreck the car. The voice said, 'I hear you're doing a bit of Purple Rain in your show. Do it again and I'm going to sue you...,'" Perry recalled. Thankfully, the rock icon offered him a settlement: "'I need 10 tickets and I'll be there tonight.'"

He goes on to say that Prince did, indeed, show up with his entourage and even did an impromptu rendition of "Purple Rain" for the audience — basically stealing Perry's thunder at his own show. Clearly Perry didn't mind!

These kinds of antics made Prince a legend and are why nearly everyone — whether they've met him in person or not — has special memories associated with the late music icon.
