You don't see their faces, but it was a good weekend for the black actors voicing characters in "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" and in a couple of other films this weekend.
The film which stars Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock, Cedric the Entertainer, Bernie Mac, Will.i.am and Sherri Shepherd, raked in an amazing $63.5 million, topping the original's opening weekend grab of $47.2 million. "Role Models," starring Bobbe J. Thompson as a bad seed, came in second with$19.3 million and "High School Musical," dropped from the top spot to No.3, earning $9.2 million
Not faring as well as expected was MGM's "Soul Men," which brought in just over $5 million for the No. 6 spot behind "Changeling" and "Zack and Miri Make A Porno." "Saw V" fell 53 percent to come in at No. 7, followed by "The Haunting of Molly Hartley."
No. 9, "The Secret Life of Bees," managed to stay in the Top 10, adding $3.1 million to its overall cum. It was followed by "Eagle Eye."
The new James Bond flick, "Quantum of Solace" comes out this weekend and will probably challenge "Madagascar" for the top position. But as we've seen in the past, kid flicks have long lives.
