After five albums Tyrese Gibson has been advised by one of his mentors to focus on his movie career.
Gibson, who is currently shooting "Transformers 2" made the announcement while promoting his latest flick, "Death Race" in San Diego. The one-time crooner from Watts said that Will Smith had taken him under his wing and is responsible for Gibson making some "big, big changes" in his life.
"I'm no longer doing music," Gibson said. "I'm going to get back to music eventually, but I've done 14 years of music, five albums and I really feel like at this point that every blessing taken for granted becomes a curse."
Even though he's appeared in several successful movies including "Baby Boy," "2 Fast, 2 Furious," "Four Brothers" and "Transformers," Gibson claimed he never took the movies that seriously because of his commitment to his music. But since Smith has told him that he has what it takes "to be that guy, you have what it takes to be the next guy," Gibson wants to spend more time perfecting his acting chops.
Even though he's got the look to be that sexy leading man in a romantic comedy or drama, Gibson seems to prefer action thrillers--especially ones involving cars right now.
"When I was a kid I always wanted something fast to drive," Gibson said. "I never thought I could afford anything fast to drive so if they're going to give them to me and I can go and beat them up and have some fun in them--bring it on."
