Was talking to "Lincoln Heights" star Nicki Micheaux yesterday and the usually amiable actress was even more animated than usual.
"Have you heard the latest news?" she said. "The film I shot in the Bahamas has been selected for the Toronto Film Festival!"
The film Micheaux is referring to is "Rain," a family drama about a daughter who is determined to reconnect with the mother who abandoned her as a toddler. The film stars Renel Brown in the title role and CCH Pounder, Irma P. Hall, the late Calvin Lockhart and Micheaux.
"Rain" is the first Bahamian independent film ever shot and Brown, a native daughter, is making her feature film debut. Micheaux plays's Brow's mother. "This girl shows up on my doorstep when my mother Irma P. Hall dies," Micheaux said. "It's a really great story. I love this movie. I've seen most of the rough cuts and the teaser. It's gorgeous, it's beautiful. I'm so proud of the film."
Micheaux is currently shooting the third season of "Lincoln Heights" in Los Angeles. The Toronto Film Festival kicks off Sept. 4.
