WERT TV in Memphis is reporting that Oscar winner Morgan Freeman is in serious condition after a bad car accident near his home in Mississippi last night.
Freeman, one of the stars of the record-breaking "Dark Knight," was air lifted to Regional Medical Center in Memphis shortly after the 11:30 p.m. accident in Ruleville, Miss. An unidentified female passenger was with him when the car apparently went off the road and rolled over several times. Early reports suggest that Freeman, 71, may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The actor is best known for his roles in "Driving Miss Daisy," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Nurse Betty" and is Oscar-winning turn in "Million Dollar Baby" in 2005.
AP reported that Clay McFerrin, editor of the Sun Sentinel in Charleston, said that Freeman had to be extracted from the vehicle with the jaws of life. According to McFerrin Freeman was lucid and even joking with bystanders before he was removed from the scene.
