Trina Exclusive Interview | My Life, My Style, My Thing

Published March 25, 2010

Trina returns to the mic to do what she does best – hustle! No one can hold Trina down. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find a female rapper of her strength, flair and fortune. She’s paid her dues and now the baddest chick from the MIA is preparing to storm the charts with her fifth album – “Amazin’”! What can we look forward to from your new album?

Trina: My fans can expect to embrace my versatility and growth, professionally and personally. I am truly excited to share my new album with my fans. I worked with wonderful artists like Nicki Minaj, Monica, Keri Hilson, Diddy, Lyfe Jennings, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and so many more.

It is a blessing to be a woman in the hip-hop industry to be able to put out a fifth album under my career.

How’s your relationship with Lil Wayne?

Lil Wayne is a good man. He is a hard worker as well as proved that HARD WORK really pays off. We have a mutual respect for one another. I support his music, and he supports my music.

Describe your ideal man.

My ideal man is powerful, confident, strong and very responsible. He is goal-oriented at all times and he respects his mother even when it comes to disagreements. At the same time, he has to be charming, with a great sense of humor. And lastly, my ideal man has to love to spoil me!

You’ve been the baddest chick in the game for a minute. How do you keep it fresh and poppin’ every time?

I just try to stay creative and consistent. I like to try different things when it comes to branding who Trina was, is, and will be. I am constantly looking to do something new and fresh with my style overall. My style is always sexy and glamorous yet with a bit of edge tied into it. I create my own identity, which keeps people always intrigued and excited to see what is next from Trina.

What makes you feel the sexiest?

I feel my sexiest when I am happy in life. I think being a woman in the industry, we have so many challenges professionally and personally; so when I am happy overall, it shows through being sexy and confident.

Who or what inspired your first single – “Million Dollar Girl”?

“Million Dollar Girl” was inspired by the state of mind that I am in right now in my life. I’m blessed, I am happy, and I am loving my journey even with the good and the bad. I am a true Million Dollar Girl. I am independent and in charge all at once.

If Diddy handed you a million dollars right now, what would you do with it?

I would donate the money to the people of Chile and Haiti who are in need of support, or who have lost all that belonged to them including their family. My heart continues to go out to the people of Haiti and Chile. They are in my prayers.

What do you think about today’s female emcees?

With the new female emcees, I think this is a new era and fresh start for them to be creative while they are building their brand. I feel as female artists, it is very important to identify yourself through your music. Being creative helps you to challenge yourself.

How ‘bout Nicki Minaj?

What I love about Nicki Minaj is that she lives out of her character which is fun and girly. She has a very different style, yet it is her own style. This is what makes her hot.

Name the top three qualities a Million Dollar Girl or 5-Star Chick should own?

In my eyes, you must be independent, FOCUSED, and in control of your destiny. If you can do those three things, now that’s a bad chick!
