Mia Amber Davis began her career as a producer for the TV shows The Ricki Lake Show, Change of Heart and Divorce Court. She was also the face of retail company Ashley Stewart for years. But it was her role in the 2000 film Road Trip as Rhonda that earned her national fame and it was her confidence on the catwalk during BET’s Rip the Runway in 2010 and 2011 that won her a special place in BET’s heart.

Signed under the Plus Division of MSA, the 36-year-old model made a huge impact in the fashion industry, serving up her beauty and talent for several plus-size fashion names such as Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart, Tennille White and Monif C. She was also the face of Jill Scott’s Butterfly Bra and a model for Queen Latifah’s Curvation line.

Plus Model Magazine, where Davis worked as an editor, took to their blog to comment on her death. "Mia was a supermodel and industry leader because it was her love for the women she represented that kept pushing her when the industry itself did not embrace her.... Today we lost our dear friend, plus-size model, industry leader and colleague but we have one more heavenly angel watching over us."

While an official cause of death has not been announced, Davis’ husband, comedian Michael Yard, tells TMZ.com that the actress went in for surgery Monday for corrective knee surgery. Davis spoke with her husband Tuesday from Los Angeles before complaining of dizzy spells and later returned to the hospital. Hours later, Yard, who was in New York at the time of the surgery, received a call from Davis’ cousin that she was dead. “I want to know what happened to my wife,” Yard told TMZ.
