Hair Files: Is Constant Weave-Wearing Making Serena Go Bald?

Hair Files: Is Constant Weave-Wearing Making Serena Go Bald?

The tennis champ's latest photo is raising some eyebrows.

Published October 19, 2011

Wow. We weren’t expecting to see something like this from Serena Williams. The tennis champion was snapped leaving dinner in Hollywood with friend Britney Gastineau, and her stylist definitely missed a spot. Smack dab in the middle of her head is a very prominent bald spot. The photo pushed commenters on top Black blogs to again engage in the debate over whether long-time weave and wig-wearing is healthy.

Remember Naomi Campbell’s “weave controversy?” The supermodel, known for her long faux mane, was photographed as her hair blew in the wind, revealing damaged, bald edges. It’s unclear if Serena or Naomi are suffering from any scalp issues that would contribute to their hairless areas, but the consistent pulling and snagging of extensions and tracks is definitely not helping.

Weigh in, BET. We want to hear from you.
