W Magazine Shines the Spotlight on Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer

W Magazine Shines the Spotlight on Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer. In the midst of awards season The Help actresses are recognized in the magazine for “Best Performances.”

Published January 20, 2012

Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are saluted amongst “this year’s brightest stars,” in W magazine’s February 2012 “Best Performances” editorial.

Each of The Help actresses look elegant in the spread photographed by Mario Sorrenti and styled by Edward Enninful. Davis gazes at herself in a vanity mirror wearing a Dolce and Gabbana dress. While her role as Aibileen Clark in the 1960s era film has already awarded her the Best Actress Award at the Critics Choice Awards, she wants Hollywood to realize she can play a broader scope of roles. “No matter what, people don’t think of me for glamorous parts. I’ll go to an audition or a meeting in a pretty dress, and they still think of me as depressed or embattled. Hopefully, that will change,” she said.

Spencer, who won Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards, is featured in a headshot with a sweep of large barrel curls. With plum toned makeup highlighting her doe-like eyes. She makes sure to point out to the magazine that she’s not to be confused with her maid character. “I don’t know how to cook or bake or prepare anything in the kitchen, and my character, Minny, is a fantastic cook. That was the hardest part of playing her. I don’t know how to do anything other than get a plate from the cabinet and stick something in the microwave.”

The actresses are each up for Oscar gold at the 84th Academy Awards, February 26, and we can't wait to see what they'll work on the red carpet for the big night!
