Tia Mowry has come a long way from her Sister, Sister days. The actress and mother of three-year-old son, Cree, is now adding style star to her list of accomplishments. Mowry has visibly stepped up her game with both her red carpet looks and everyday style in recent years, documenting the evolution on her Instagram account.
The Instant Mom star talks to the Huffington Post about her fashion icons, favorite places to shop online and what inspired her newfound passion for fashion.
Mowry begins by recalling her favorite red carpet moment. "It would have to be the look I wore to the Selma movie premiere," she says. "I've always wanted to do braids but was nervous about what others might think about them. People are so used to seeing me have that girl-next-door approach to fashion. I was like 'No. This is what I want to do. This is what I want to try.'"
The actress counts Nicole Richie and Rihanna among her style inspirations. Of Richie, she says, "This is someone that came onto the scene that people didn't necessarily view as a style icon and she completely switched up her game. And I like how she takes risks with fashion."
The other inspiration that sparked her style transformation, Mowry says, was becoming a mother. "After I had Cree was the beginning of my style evolution, because I wasn't the same person," she reveals. "Once you become a mother it's like 'I am woman, hear me roar!' and fashion is a part of that because it's a part of expressing who I am — it's a part of expressing and showing my personality without saying a word."
Mowry leaves her fans with a few tips on how they can get her laid-back glam looks by sharing some of her online shopping destinations, including Valley Eyewear and Australian denim brand One Teaspoon.
