Dascha Polanco looked stunning at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards in a white lace Michael Costello dress. Not only did the dress hug her in all the right places, but she looked so sophisticated when she and her Orange Is the New Black co-stars won their first SAG Award. In her interview with Styleblazer.com, the actress shared the details behind choosing her dress, her beauty must-haves and where she gets inspiration for her personal style.

“I’ve been inspired a lot by the ’80s and what I saw growing up. I like that to always be some part of what I wear. If there’s one thing off, it kind of ruins the entire look, so I like collaborating with the team,” Polanco said. She said this includes holding meetings about her red carpet looks and sharing suggestions with her stylist. When it came to the SAG Awards, it was designer Michael Costello who had expressed interest in dressing her up for the event.

“I was really excited when my stylist [Shariff Jackson] and publicist informed me that he would want to dress me…At first we went in and we were going to wear another dress,” she said. “The first time, I didn’t get to meet him at the fitting. But, the second time, he walked in and had no idea I was coming. And as soon as he saw me try on the [first] dress, he started throwing other dresses at me like, ‘try this one on,’ or ‘no, you have to try that one on.’ Then I told him I really wanted to wear a white dress…and he pulled out this white lace and said it was from his new collection.”

The dress was made of white lace and featured a high neck, a long, gorgeous train and a cutout in the back.

“What I love about his designs and his process is that he allows me to embrace my curves. When I tried stuff on, he celebrated me. He was very open to cinch up the waist and make it tight. He makes you feel so comfortable and everything fits,” she said. “For him to make you feel like nothing is impossible; it’s a boost of confidence that I think is essential for every woman. He’s one of the few designers that celebrates curves and doesn’t want to straighten them out.”
