Where do the most racist tweets come from? Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia top the list.

Type “n----r” into search on Twitter and you’re likely to come up with way more results – and hateful tweets – than you could have ever expected.

Welcome to racist troll central, where Americans from Alabama to Utah are constantly spewing hateful tweets as they hide behind a semi-clever handle (@queenofFlop, for example) and an avatar of Madonna.

Add to the mix the re-election of the first Black president this week and you can really see how much has not changed when it comes to America and race relations.

Earlier this week, Jezebel published a slideshow of Twitter’s racist reactions to President Obama’s victory. And then a group of academics pulled together some information on how racist states were according to the number of hateful tweets. According to their formula, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia are at the top of the racist-tweet list.
