Beyoncé is doing her part for President Obama's re-election campaign. In a new online video, the Grammy-winning singer reads aloud a love letter, of sorts, that she wrote to First Lady Michelle Obama earlier this year.
“I wrote a letter to the first lady because I wanted her to know that I am very grateful for everything she is doing for our country and also for women around the world,” Beyoncé says in the video. “I am so in awe of Michelle Obama. Every time I see her she inspires me, she empowers me, she encourages me to live a healthy lifestyle, to support our veterans.”
The admiration is mutual. Obama, who is the real star of the video and shown in her various roles as wife, mother, campaigner and first lady with a cause, once told People magazine that if she could be someone else it would be a "great singer" like Beyoncé. She also has taken daughters Malia and Sasha to the singer's performances.
Beyoncé originally posted the handwritten letter, praising Obama for being a role model, to her Tumblr account in April.
“She is a caring mother, she is a loving wife, while at the same time she is the FIRST LADY!!!!” she wrote. “I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to.”
