As badly as House Democrats want to recapture the majority in November, there’s at least one member of the party whose congressional bid they hope will fail on Election Day. Kesha Rogers, a follower of political cult leader Lyndon LaRouche, is the Democratic nominee to represent Texas’ 22nd District.
She has compared the Affordable Care Act to the Holocaust, supports an interplanetary defense of the earth from asteroids and Mars colonization and has called for the impeachment of President Obama. Her campaign slogan is "Keep NASA, Dump Obama."
“What made me decide to run was the dire state of the economy and the non-leadership of President Obama,” Rogers, 25, told The Huffington Post.
She also said that she thinks "both parties are going in the wrong direction."
Gilberto Hinojosa, chairman of the Texas Democratic Party, suspects that state Republicans may have had a hand in Rogers winning the nomination, albeit by a mere 103 votes, to ensure that the Republican incumbent, Rep. Pete Olson, who “crushed” her in 2010, would win handily again. In addition, he said that African-American voters, unaware of her beliefs, may have unwittingly supported her.
Hinojosa told The Huffington Post that Rogers’ snagging the nomination was “sad” because a viable candidate could have helped Democrats regain the House.
“The moment that woman won the primary we just kind of walked away from that race,” he said.
