As he continues to escape from Mexican authorities, fugitive drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is reportedly suffering from injuries, CNN reports.

The Mexican government confirmed the reports early on Saturday after news got out that he had been hurt during a "near-miss" last week.

The notorious kingpin was figured out by Mexican Marines after U.S. drug agents intercepted cell phone signals suggesting that he was hiding away at a ranch near Cosala in the Sierra Madre mountains in western Mexico. Though Marines raided the ranch in helicopters, they were forced to turn around after being attacked by suspected security forces working in collaboration with Guzman. After entering the camp on foot, however, the Marines found cell phones, medication and two-way radios. Guzman and his associates were suspected to have already fled at that time.

During his escape, it is believed that Guzman suffered the injuries: "one leg and his face," according to the National Security Cabinet.

Though authorities believed that they had located Guzman within a two-mile radius, with a week and a half passing since the raid, they are now losing hope.
