After Republican candidate Mitt Romney said he'd cut funds to Big Bird's PBS network during his first presidential debate against President Barack Obama, the public spoke out against the proposal. Now the puppets are going to get their say on the matter. Puppets of all kinds, marionettes, mascots and their human counterparts, will march through the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 3 to protest.
More than 1,600 puppeteers and supporters of public television have joined in on the event originally called the Million Muppet March. It was later changed to include all puppets that live outside of Sesame Street. The group will meet in Lincoln Park at 10 a.m. EDT and the march to the Capitol Reflecting Pool begins at 11 a.m. A rally will follow at 1 p.m.
