Chaka Khan might have recently celebrated her 60th birthday, but the diva is not about to sit down anytime soon. During an interview with Black Enterprise, the star chatted about her entrepreneurial pursuits and how she’s using her business savvy to continue growing her empire. Not only does she have a unisex fragrance, a line of scented candles and home fragrances and her own gourmet "Chakalates," but she also dedicates her energy towards growing her charity for women and children at risk.
"A percentage of the sales for each of the items I sell will go to the Chaka Khan Foundation," she said. "One portion will be for an educational initiative here in Los Angeles, another will be for an initiative in Louisiana for Hurricane Katrina victims and there will be more announcements to come."
Chaka Khan, who said taking care of her body and mind are just as important as tending to her businesses, admitted that she doesn't have any formal business training, but picked up skills and tricks over the years through experience.
"As right-brained people, we often neglect the left-brain aspect of ourselves," she added. "Through trial and error, I've learned you have to understand how to run a proper business or you end up in trouble. You’ve got to be careful who you trust and watch where all those expenses go."
