Atlanta Exes star Monyetta Shaw recently sat down with Mara the Hip Hop Socialite to talk about her broken engagement to Ne-Yo, how she handled the aftermath and why she held on to hope after he suddenly called everything off.
“Girl, I’m going to be real, I’m human. Maybe I’m saying too much, but I’m going to say it. Because everybody saw me on the show, and I was completely vulnerable and open, I’m not mad at admitting this,” she said. “Of course I knew that he would, you know, in my head, he was going to sow his oats and come back home when he was ready. And maybe that’s what everybody else thought, but life happens, and I’m okay with it. I’m human – at times it didn’t feel good, but I understand everything happens for a reason, and God has a plan, so all is well.”
Not many women can walk away from having your children’s father leave like that and still continue to have their head on right. Furthermore, Shaw even put her own feelings aside to meet Ne-Yo’s new girlfriend, Crystal Renay, for the sake of their two children.
“As a mother, it’s my duty to meet the person that’s potentially going to be around my kids. And, like you said, the initials [Ne-Yo and Crystal recently got each other’s initials tattooed on their ring fingers] and everything – they hot and heavy over there. Can’t be mad at that, you know,” she said.
“I have wished him the best and everything, I still do, and I felt like it was time, you know,” Shaw continued. “It’s definitely time for me to meet her, get to know her, well start to get to know her, and that’s what I did. Actually, it was all good – pleasantly surprised.”
As for her own progress in the dating scene, Shaw let it be known that she’s mingling, quite happy playing the field and taking her sweet time.
“I’m dating the same someone [as the last time she and I talked], but let’s not get too happy, but I’m seeing other people – it’s not anything serious,” she said. “I like him, but I do have kids, you know, everything with me is going to happen slower just to make sure. But I’m definitely getting out there more, very, very happy and content, and so I’m in a very good place right now I will say.”
