Serena Williams Named Second Highest-Paid Female Athlete
Forbes has released its list of the world’s highest-paid female athletes of 2015 and it’s no surprise that tennis’s golden child, Serena Williams, is near the top. Having earned $24.6 million from June 2014 to June 2015, Williams was ranked as the second highest-paid female athlete, just behind Maria Sharapova.
According to Forbes, Williams earned $11.6 million in winnings and $13 million from endorsements. The four-time Grand Slam champion has inked lucrative deals with Chase, Audemars Piguet and PepsiCo.
The top three highest-paid female athletes were all tennis players, with another four making appearances throughout the list of the top 10. Sharapova, who’s topped the list for the past 11 years in a row, earned $29.7 million. Ronda Rousey, the number one female mixed martial arts champion, who’s also played roles in The Expendables 3 and Furious 7, nabbed the eighth spot on the list with total earnings of $6.5 million in one year.
