Michael Vick's always been one of hip-hop's favorite athletes.
Since entering the NFL in 2001, Vick's been referenced in songs by Nas, Cam'Ron and 50 Cent just to name a few. Newcomer Nicki Minaj recently joined the long list of Vick name-droppers during the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards' Cypher.
Holding her own alongside veteran rhyme spitters like Joe Budden and Buckshot, Nicki concluded her animated verse by offering, "and I'm killin' these b**ches, Mike Vickin' it up." Though the lyric was censored during the telecast, word quickly spread about one of Minaj's most impressive punchlines to date. Vick, who hadn't heard the verse when it originally aired, recently responded to the rhyme.
"That’s a crazy punchline, Nicki," Vick told BET.com. "That’s hot. But, it’s got to be used in the right sense. But yeah, I’m a big fan of Nicki Minaj."
"I’m always getting shoutouts by rappers, man and I think it just goes to show that the credibility is there, but I’m a big fan of most of those guys in a sense," he continued. "I think it correlates to their punchline and their creative thinking. It makes me feel good to hear my name shouted out in albums. That means a lot ‘cause everybody don’t get that. Every professional athlete can’t get that."
