Jay-Z Settles 40/40 Lawsuit With David Ortiz

Published June 21, 2010

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and Jay-Z have settled their lawsuit over naming rights for the 40/40 Club.

Earlier this year, Hov took Ortiz to court for copyright infringment after he opened his own 40/40 Club in the Dominican Republic. Jay and business partner Juan Perez claim Ortiz's establishment has caused "marketplace confusion and damage."

According to sources close to the suit, Ortiz has agreed to change the name of his Forty/Forty Club and remove his FortyForty.net website. The pair was suing Ortiz for $5 million.

In addition to the 40/40 in NYC, Hov and Perez have opened 40/40 establishments in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Plans to open 40/40 venues in Tokyo and Macau are being discussed.
