Black Girls Rock Teams Up With BET | Music News

Black Girls Rock! will be rockin' for the first time on television when the star-studded events airs on BET on Sunday, November 7. The special will honor a select number of extraordinary women, making a difference in their career and in their community.

Founded by celebrity DJ and former model, Beverly Bond; BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc., is a nonprofit organization focusing on the healthy development of young women and girls. The mission of the organization is to build the self-esteem and self-worth of young women of color by changing their outlook on life, broadening their horizons, and helping them to empower themselves.

This year, the event takes place at the Paradise Theatre in New York City on Saturday, October 16. Some of the awards that will be given out that night include the "Rock Star" award, the Social Huminatarian, Who Got Next, Living Legend, and Young Gifted & Black. Former award recipients include Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah.
