Mya decided to make the most out of the earhquake that rocked the East Coast yesterday [August 24] by releasing her new single "Earthquake" featuring Trina.

The song was actually a holdover from the Japanese release of her K.I.S.S. album, that was pulled after the devastating earthquake hit Japan last year. Mya gave the song the green light this time around however, because the relatively injury-free East Coast quake was a lot more surprising than it was tragic.

"When considering to release it on the U.S. version this fall, again it was a decision I went back and forth on, but ultimately, I think people will understand my decision to release the song, because at the end of the day I think the world is ready to have some fun, and take negative situations and reinvent them into something positive, that we can own, learn from and that bring us together," Mya told AOL Music. "Sometimes we just need to let loose, let our hair down, come together and shake it like an Earthquake."

Hoping that people don't take the decision to release the single the wrong way, the R&B singer clarified that her intentions for releasing the track at this time are good. "I went back and forth with the decision whether or not to release this song ['Earthquake'] and it was definitely a struggle, but overall, I've learned to take any kind of negative experience or situation and turn it into something positive," she explained.  "So, this song is kind of a metaphor… Embracing the paradox, switching it up and taking something potentially devastating and embracing the challenge and really just flipping the script."

The singer also released her new track "Mess Up My Hair."
