After impressing London fans with a recent concert, Frank Ocean has also impressed GQ magazine stateside, earning the rag's "Rookie of the Year" title.
Dressed in a slim grey suit and white collared shirt at the Greystone Mansion in Los Angeles, Ocean chatted with the Gentleman's Quarterly about Jay-Z's sage studio advice while the pair collaborated, along with Kanye West, during recording of the Watch the Throne LP.
"The one musical thing I learned from Jay-Z is less takes is probably more," Ocean admitted with a smile.
As for lessons from Kanye West, the Californian says it was all about the shoes.
"The one non-musical thing I learned from Kanye is that you should always choose your sneakers wisely," Ocean said.
And while Kanye's fashion sense might be brash, Ocean thinks of his own as a bit more subtle.
"If someone asked me to describe my personal style, they'd probably say I'm bland and boring," Ocean said. "But some people call that timeless, so I don't know."
