While most artists tend to follow the precedent of covering traditional holiday tunes with a personalized twist, R&B crooner Lloyd is bringing his own smooth ditty to this season’s Christmas caroling.

During the recent A Very BET Christmas holiday special, the King of Hearts premiered his latest ballad “Me & You (This Christmas),” as well as an up-tempo Jackson 5-inspired track, “She’s All I Want for Christmas.”

"I was really looking forward to being here for this Christmas special," the young singer tells BET.com. “I was able to perform something original, something I wrote, something that I've never played for anybody or performed in public."

Teaming up with Grammy Award-winning performer Cee Lo Green, and producer D. Smith for his own handful of holiday jams, the singer admits he wanted to make original Christmas music that was fun.

"It was my turn to take a stab at all the great Christmas music I grew up listening to," he explained. "In my house, we grew up listening to a lot of great Christmas music that was done by a lot of the heavy soul singers at that time. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Boyz ll Men, Jackson 5 were favorites for my sisters and I.”

Currently focused on spreading holiday cheer, the ATL native is in no rush to put out a follow-up to his Zone 4/Interscope Records album King Of Hearts.

"I don't plan on releasing another album anytime soon, mostly because it took a long time to make that one,” Lloyd proclaims. “I just want to let it live and grow. I've really been dedicated to keeping the integrity of black music."

Despite there being no new album on the horizon, LLoyd says he's still busy in the studio recording and hints that he may take a change of course musically.

"The past few months have proven to be some of my best months since I've even been in the game,” he boasts. “I'm really looking forward to bringing some real unorthodox music on the next album, but we're always going to keep the groove."

King of Hearts is in stores now, while “She’s All I Want For Christmas” is available on iTunes.
