Published December 27, 2011

The new year is almost upon us and, music wise, 2012 has some pretty big shoes to fill. Here at BET.com, 2011 left us with no shortage of compelling music stories to follow, from the emergence of Big Sean and J. Cole, to the reign of Kanye West and Jay-Z.

To cap things off, we asked some of our favorite industry insiders, including Shaheem Reid (XXL Magazine), radio personality Angela Yee (co-host of Power 105's The Breakfast Club morning show), journalist/blogger B. Dot (RapRadar.com), televison persoanlity Amanda Seales and more, to offer their thoughts on the year's biggest stories.

"The music was just so incredible," says journalist Janee Bolden of Jay and Kanye's Watch The Throne. "That album really launched a lot of the young producers and songwriters that we're seeing now, from Frank Ocean to Hit-Boy."

How did Chris Brown handle his comeback? What's up with Rick Ross and Kreayshawn? When we look back at 2011, which blockbuster album will be deemed more pivotal, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV, or Drake's Take Care?
