After announcing that his sophomore album would bear the acronym O.N.I.F.C. as its title, Wiz Khalifa has come forward to officially explain the mysterious moniker. Speaking with Sway on his Shade 45 radio show, the young rap star revealed that the letters stand for "Only N***a In First Class."
"It's inspired by Prodigy and his album H.N.I.C ["Head N***a In Charge']," Khalifa explained, referring to the Mobb Deep member's 2001 solo LP. "When he dropped that, I felt like that sounded so strong and it really meant something and it had the n-word in it. I wanted to figure out something [along those lines but] that was me, too," he said." So I was thinking about it and I actually said it on one of my songs, like, 'Ain't it funny when time pass?/Only n***a in first class,' and I was just talking about me being a young, rich dude and being Black."
Khalifa said that the concept came from his personal experiences dealing with incredulous flight crew members and passengers whenever he would brandish a first class ticket.
"It looks crazy to [the workers on an airplane] when I walk up to them and I show them a [first class] ticket, or I'm going to priority seating and they're like, 'You sure?'" he elaborated. "It's kind of like that feeling — it's a good feeling, but then it's also a bad feeling because it's like 'Damn, why y'all even feel like that about me?'"
The "Black and Yellow" rapper said there would also be a clean version of the album title, which would be "One Night In First Class."
"And that's just like me giving you the experience of it," he explained. "You get to feel how I feel and live how I live when you put this on from start to finish."
O.N.I.F.C. is scheduled for release later this year.
