Yesterday, rumors hit the web about incarcerated hip hop star Remy Ma passing away in prison. The renowned Bronx MC was supposedly stabbed to death in her cell, and her Wikipedia page was amended to say she died on July 15, 2012.
The rapper, who is alive, untouched and well, called New York's Hot 97 radio personality Funkmaster Flex to address the rumors and revealed that she’ll be released in 22 months.
“I heard I was dead and all types of craziness. People are crazy,” said Remy.
The rap celebrity’s “death” was trending worldwide on Twitter, and her fans were concerned that the rumor was true. She responded to the hoax, saying:
“[People] have nothing to do with their lives sometimes, so they just say things and then it gets out of control and other people say it and I don’t know. I just know they was looking for me crazy all throughout the prison. I was happy I wasn’t out of pocket.”
The rapper is currently serving eight years at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of assault stemming from a fight in which a friend was shot. Remy accused the friend of stealing $3,000 from her purse, and the two got into a fight outside a New York City nightclub.
