Miami rapper Bizzle, born Robert Labranche, was shot and killed outside of a car wash late Monday, local police have confirmed.
The 37-year-old artist was seen by witnesses arguing with a younger man in front of the business. Shortly thereafter, a hail of gunfire was heard. Police say they are looking for an African-American suspect believed to be in his twenties and last seen wearing all black.
The founder of Chowtime Records and the author of 2006 strip club hit "Lip Biting Animal," Bizzle had been active on the Miami hip hop scene since 2000.
A crowd developed last night at the crime scene as friends and relatives gathered and became outwardly emotional. Labranche's two children, both under age 10, were nearby in his car at the time of the murder, although they are not believed to have witnessed the crime. The kids, a boy and a girl, are currently in the custody of relatives.
In a statement to NBC Miami, police spokesman Willie Moreno said he was struck by the outpouring of support.
"This is someone that was definitely loved, not just by his family but by his community," he said.
