Tyga Admits Wealthy Upbringing in Leaked Video

Rapper's street cred takes a hit from found 2008 footage.

Young Money rapper Tyga has apparently been getting money since he was even younger than we thought. The 23-year-old rapper, who is often reported as being from Compton, actually grew up in the Valley, where his parents drove a Range Rover and a Mercedes Benz. The news comes from Tyga himself in unaired footage via an aborted 2008 MTV game show that was obtained by TMZ.

"Grew up not too tough. Parents got a Range Rover, [Mercedes Benz] CL 600, doin' it big," Tyga says to the camera in the clip. "Not too much hard, but I'm still street."

A cousin of Gym Class Heroes rapper Travie McCoy, Tyga released his debut album at the age of 18 and signed to Young Money in 2009. In numerous interviews, he has identified himself as being from Compton, the same gritty L.A. exurb that birthed N.W.A., Game and, most recently, Kendrick Lamar.

In the nixed MTV show, called Busters, Tyga competed with other aspiring rappers in silly game show competitions such as "Name That Grill" and "Real or Frontin'," in which contestants were challenged to determine whether a blinged out piece of jewelry was real or fake. During a freestyle competition where he was required to use key words, Tyga was booed off the stage.
