Drake to Host SNL

Rapper joins shortlist of artists who both host and perform on the iconic show.

Drake is taking his talents to Saturday Night Live as both a host and performer next month, the show announced during its weekend broadcast. The "All Me" rapper is billed to lead SNL's first episode of the new year on Jan. 18, 2014.

The gig marks Drake's inaugural hosting run, having first performed on SNL in 2011, when he also appeared in a Weekend Update sketch.

Wearing both hats adds the 27-year-old Canadian to a tight list of recording artists that have pulled double-duty including Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake and most recently Lady Gaga

Although taking over the SNL stage will be Drizzy's most notable acting gig thus far, it's certainly not his first. Before his rap career took off, the Toronto native was known for his role as disabled basketball star Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

In the last few years he's also nabbed guest spots in Ice Age: Continental Drift, alongside YMCMB affiliate Nicki Minaj, and the newly released Anchorman 2, alongside a Kanye West feature.
