Michelle Obama Samples Lil Jon in 'Turnip for What?'

The first lady goes viral on Vine and encourages healthy eating at the same time.

First Lady Michelle Obama doesn’t "turn down," she’s more into the "turnip" — as in the root vegetable.

Mrs. O borrowed Lil Jon's “Turn Down for What?” in a Vine video response to actor and President Obama impersonator Iman Crosson. He asked, “How many calories do you burn every time you turn up?!" for an #AskTheFirstLady social media Q&A and instead of hitting him back on Twitter, the commander-in-chief’s better half did something much funnier. She shot a video that doubles as a push for her healthy eating campaign.

In the clip, Mrs. Obama holds a turnip and says “Turnip for what?” before she breaks into a dance just as the beat drops on Lil Jon's song. The clip was posted to the White House's Vine account yesterday (Oct. 14) and already has over 6 million loops, 42,000 likes, 31,000 revines, and more than 6,700 comments.

This isn’t the first time that Mrs. Obama scored big on social media, she and the POTUS already know a thing or two about becoming viral sensations. A photo of the first couple embracing after the 2012 election win became the most retweeted image on Twitter — before Justin Bieber and later, Ellen Degeneres, knocked them out of the top spot.
