Chief Keef has been dropped from Interscope Records, his label home of two years, reports Allhiphop.com. A source told the site that Interscope has been trying to “subtly disassociate” itself from the Chicago teen due his string of arrests and other legal issues.
“Keef and his people tried to keep the label accountable (once Keef moved to Los Angeles) but Interscope didn’t seem interested in dropping a new album,” said the insider. “Keef’s team tried to have formal meetings but nothing moved.”
An argument between the 19-year-old “F--k Rehab” rapper’s team and label execs was the last straw after a shooting at Keef's manager's house, the source said.
Apparently Sosa was released from his contract not long after the disagreement, but it doesn’t look like he knew about it until today. “F**k that Everything that was Supposed to drop Still dropping 10days left for #BFTD2and Christmas #B3 SituationGang!” he tweeted. “Laughing because to me I been Dropped. mfs ain't help me Pay no Mf Bills .Ain't s**t gone stop Jus gets Better and bigger!" he also wrote.
Keef claims he was done with Interscope after Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre jumped ship to work with Apple. “When Jimmy n Dre left that's when I said f**k Interscope! Big D**k style. that's what I signed up for not this new staff! Of WhiteHonkies!”
In another tweet Keef said that he plans to leak tracks off his new album, and tweeted a shout out to Iovine. “Jimmy it was cool splitting with U But u gave yo spot up!”
Interscope signed Keef, aka Keith Cozart, to a rumored $6 million contract. Unfortunately, he couldn't seem to stay out of trouble long enough to focus solely on the music, including being in jail when his debut, Finally Rich, dropped.
Since the short jail stint, he’s been sued for eviction, child support, and skipping shows, in addition to busts for probation violation, and DUI. He also went to rehab this year.
