Jessie J: Ariana Grande and I Aren't Remaking 'The Boy Is Mine'

Sweet Talker singer says she spoke to Brandy and "it's not happening."

Protective fans of the 1998 classic R&B duet "The Boy Is Mine" need not worry any longer as it was recently confirmed by Jessie J herself that she and "Break Free" singer Ariana Grande won't be recreating the hit after all.

At Sunday night's American Music Awards, the "Burnin' Up" performer squashed the announcement once and for all, saying, "Neither of us have agreed. Sadly, people are believeing it. I spoke to Brandy and I was like, 'No, it's not happening.' Monica and Brandy are the best."

The speculation of the re-imagined smash was initially brought about by the song's original producer and co-writer Rodney "Darkchild" Jenkins, who seemed quite confident that the cover was set to happen and even appear on a 20th-anniversary project of his music: "For example, I'll do the 'The Boy Is Mine' with Ariana and Jessie J," he said in an interview with Hits Daily Double.

Following his announcement, several fans of Brandy and Monica — who are seasoned vets in the music industry — were up in arms that the duet was possibly being remade by two fairly new pop music singers.
