With his new album, Black Messiah, already out and buzzing, D'Angelo is set to perform on Saturday Night Live, making this his first live televised performance since the 2012 BET Awards.
Billboard reports that the R&B/soul crooner is confirmed as SNL's musical guest on the upcoming Jan. 31 episode alongside Oscar-nominated actor J.K. Simmons, who will serve as the episode's host.
D'Angelo, who has been notoriously isolated for years, returned to the music scene in December with Black Messiah, his first full-length LP in 14 years. Upon its surprise release, the album immediately shot to the top of the iTunes charts, making it one of the most acclaimed releases of 2014. The project debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
SNL is just the beginning of D'Angelo's newly embarked journey. Last week, the singer, along with his backing band, the Vanguard, booked his first U.S. headlining show since the album dropped at New York's Apollo Theater on Feb. 7. The "How Does It Feel" performer will then embark on his own European tour in Zurich, Switzerland, four days after.
