Kanye West is sticking it to the Grammys for giving Beck Album of the Year over Beyoncé. West called into On Air With Ryan Seacrest Wednesday (Feb. 12) morning to elaborate on his original comments about Mrs. Carter losing the night’s top honor.
The 21-time Grammy winner says he won’t return to the Grammys unless he has a meeting with the president of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow. “I will not go until I sit with Neil, sit with Jimmy Jam, and fix the voting system to be more in accord with the popular vote.”
‘Ye stated that “popularity is what is needed,” noting that music’s biggest stars tend to perform so that people will tune in. Speaking of which, he said that show is too long. “I think it runs a bit slow.”
His views about the Grammys have nothing to do with Beck however. West called the rocker “one of the nicest guys" that he would never want to disrespect as a “fellow musician.”
That said, he couldn’t help but run up on stage while the 44-year-old rocker accepted his award. “When that happened, everybody was looking at me and then people started screaming, ‘Kanye! Kanye! Go do it!’ OK, that didn’t really happen, these were voices in my head. So the voices in my head told me go and then I just walked up like halfway up the stage. You know, what I really wanted to do is just joke around about what had happened before, but I just really didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or the time he’s having to talk because you know the Grammys, they play music really quick no matter who you are and everything."
West also revealed that he and Taylor Swift will be collaborating at some point, talked about his upcoming Yeezy sneakers and revealed plans to design school uniforms next year.
