Finals Set At Red Bull Thr3e Style DJ Competition

Dynamix, J. Espinosa and Reed Streets take night two.

Another night and another packed house in the city of Phoenix as folks returned to once see who would fill the final two spots for Saturday’s final round in the Red Bull Thr3e Style DJ Competition. In the end it was all California love with Dynamix from L.A. and J. Espinosa from San Bruno advancing…But then the judges surprised everyone adding Philly’s DJ Reed Streets as the Wild Card.

Reed Streets may have had the most difficult road of all the contestants as he was given the dreaded opening slot, which he blasted through with a medley of old school hip hop interspersed with some remixed pop hits before fully winning over the crowd with a few stadium classics to close out. All-in-all it was Street who mixed the most genres by far.

J. Espinosa followed repping his home state with a Steph Curry Golden State Warriors jersey then showing that, like Curry, his energy and hand speed were incomparable. The crowd loved his energy so much they were chanting his name halfway through his 15 minute set.

ATL’s Jaycee came out pretty tough, putting on for his hometown with sounds from artists like Bone Crusher, Outkast and 2 Chainz, but like Boi Jeanius the night before, Jaycee felt the curse of Taylor Swift after he played “Shake It Off” to the disdain of the crowd.

Taylor Gang’s DJ Bonics also put up a solid effort incorporating everything from 80s pop to a modernized version of the Mario Bros. theme song. Similarly, Austin native Buck Rodgers came out with a high energy and tactical set, which touched on every era in hip hop and also embraced the genre's competitive spirit, firing shots at his fellow contestants.

Dynamix was the final contestant and he did not disappoint, keeping the place thumping with club classics, strategically placing his audio clips, and firing back at the other contestants with a specialized version of Cee Lo’s “F**k You” that included their names.

In the end it was J. Espinosa, Dynamix and, in the wild card slot, Reed Streets and it was all love, especially for the fans, who then got to witness the legendary hand skills of DJ Scratch Bastid before being treated to the sounds of the one and only DJ Jazzy Jeff.

The finals are set and in less than 24 hours we will find out who will be crowned champion of the Red Bull Thre3style National Final and represent the US in the World Final in Tokyo.
