The unsolved death of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old woman who was arrested and found hanging in her jail cell days later, has struck a chord with “Hip Hop” singer August Alsina.

Alsina posted this heartwarming message on Instagram earlier today, featuring a video of Bland.

The New Orleans crooner knows first hand what it’s like to lose a loved one suddenly. His older brother, Melvin La’Branch III, was murdered in 2010.

In the case of Bland, her death will be treated as a murder after it was initially labeled a suicide. Authorities released dash-cam footage from the July 10 traffic stop in which a Texas state trooper threatened to fire a stun gun at Bland for “non-compliance.” In the video, Bland questions why the officer wants her to step out of her vehicle.

The back-and-forth continues, and Bland is later heard saying that the officer smashed her head into the ground, and pleads with him to remove his knee from her back.

Bland was found unresponsive at Houston's Waller County Jail on the morning of July 13. Her family is asking for a second review of the dash-cam recording amid claims the footage was doctored.

She will be laid to rest in her hometown of Chicago this weekend. is your No. 1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
