Ma$e Rapped Over This Famous West Coast Beat About New York

Ma$e Rapped Over This Famous West Coast Beat About New York

The real question is why?

Published August 11, 2015

No disrespect to Ma$e, but this one has us scratching our heads a bit.

The 39-year-old rapper must be inspired by Puff Daddy’s recent return to making music because he’s let loose a freestyle called “#WhenNYWasNY.” The Harlem spitter reminisces on the good times of New York hip hop on the song. “When New York was New York, it sound like this,” he raps. Is this his attempt to restore the feeling?

Whatever motivated Mason Betha to put NY on notice is up for discussion but the weird thing is he chose to rap over Dr. Dre’s “California Love.”

We hope Ma$e realizes that the East Coast-West Coast rivalry is long over and this doesn’t really send much of a message. However, it does tell the younger generation of spitters to unite and make music together... just like Atlanta, LA, the Bay, etc.
