MTV says the sound was faulty mics.

TMZ has the scoop we’ve all been waiting for!

On Sunday night at the VMAs pre-show, Taylor Swift and her gal pal squad were getting ready to premiere the video for “Wildest Dreams” for the first time. Directed by Joseph Kahn, Swift was all excited to announce the video and more details about it when viewers heard a strange noise in the background, which sounded a lot like someone just passed gas.

Of course, an MTV spokesperson quickly debunked the idea that Swift would do the most human thing possible: fart. Instead, TMZ reports that it was faulty microphones that made the noise, but the timing of it all was just too good to be true.

MTV further says that their mics are so directional that there’s no way it would have picked up a noise that loudly. Twitter still believes she did. What do you think? Mystery solved?
