Mary J. Blige's career is one that certainly warrants a big stage production. The Queen of Hip Hop Soul would love for her story to make it on Broadway one day.
"I definitely want to see the Mary J. Blige story — or just one of the album cycles — on Broadway," Blige told Playbill.
The multi-platinum selling singer's What’s the 411 debut was released over 20 year ago, and she has a dozen albums on her resume. “To just have one of those albums, turns or times on Broadway would be crazy.”
Blige just fulfilled another dream with her role in The Wiz Live musical, airing next month. "We all wanted to be standing next to Michael Jackson as Dorothy or even playing Evillene or just being Auntie Em!
“We just always wanted to be a part of it, and it's something we [now] get to share with generations — new generations that probably don't even know anything about The Wiz,” she explained. “We get to share real music and real songs, and we get to show them what it is that we grew up on and inspire them to want to do it as well."
The Wiz Live premieres Dec. 3. at 8 p.m.
