If the tracklisting for Ty Dolla $ign’s debut album, Free TC, didn’t sell it well enough, maybe his newest advertisement will.
The West Coast vocalist recently unveiled a billboard of him and models Jessica Cribbon, Dylan Fitzpatrick and Natalie Wolf — and they aren’t wearing very much. The ad is located in Hollywood on the southbound intersection of Highland Ave and Franklin Ave and is a collaboration with Ty’s longtime clothing supplier, Popular Demand.
The album is dedicated to his imprisoned brother, Big TC, and proceeds from the sales are going toward freeing him.
"I'm definitely gonna try to sell some records this time to free TC. That's the whole purpose of it," he told Fuse TV last year. "I'm gonna give the people a super-quality album and use that money and get him an incredible lawyer."
You can hear his love for Big TC, too. Numerous songs either end or begin with him talking with his brother via phone from behind prison walls. No cut is more of a tribute, however, than the eight-minute “Miracle/Wherever.” It features TC, who, ironically among the star-studded guest list, was figuratively the most difficult verse to record and is unique in that the vocals are largely unmixed and unmastered.
Over the past few years, Ty has appeared on just about every big name artist’s tracklist at some point. Now, it’s time for everyone else to return the favor. And they did. Everyone from R&B legends R. Kelly, Brandy and Babyface to hip hop superstars Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and Future have joined in to bolster Ty’s first commercial release.
It's in the fans' hands as of today.
