The series, aptly titled "Hip Hop Cash Kings," has traditionally compiled a list of the richest in the biz. This year, for its third annual "Prince" edition, the staff at Forbes has decided to highlight their picks for the up-and-coming hopeful bosses, listing rap acts under the age of 30 who are likely to be top earners for the year.
Its “Next Richest Rappers” list is curious but not all that shocking, highlighting those on the come up such as Fetty Wap, Dej Loaf and Logic, who all saw their careers level up significantly in 2015. G-Eazy, Joey Bada$$, Lil Dicky and Little Simz also make the cut. Not exclusive to emcees, the list also includes producers of Drake fame, Boi-1da and Metro Boomin.
Hold up, though. This list was compiled using the best educated guesses of its staff, instead of analyzing any financial data. Additionally, to help back up their predictions, Forbes recruited opinions from taste makers such as Hit-Boy, Charlamagne tha God and the CEO of Atlantic Records, Craig Kallman.
So maybe the folks at Forbes do know what they are talking about, but really, their guesses are as good as any.
Despite the fact that this list isn’t built on hard evidence (i.e. actual facts), Fetty Wap and Logic, for two examples, have already shown their earning potential through their record-breaking and chart-topping records. And Dej Loaf has recently teamed up with M.A.C. Cosmetics, showing that her year is off to a great start as well.
We’ll have to see how the year pans out in terms of these predictions, but one can agree, one of the best parts of a new year is seeing new successes unfold for rising stars.
