Published April 22, 2016

DJ Premier stepped up to the plate last night (April 21) to pay tribute to the passing of Prince the best way he knows how — through a live DJ set.

The news of the iconic musician’s passing has been a continuing conversation, with artists and fans alike reminiscing on the legacy he has left behind.

DJ Premier decided to celebrate Prince’s life by doing a special set, which he broadcast via Facebook, and also shared some unreleased beats and lesser known B-Sides from his extensive collection.

“I want to salute one of the greatest artists in the world, the artist known as Prince,” Premier said in a statement. “The guideline that shaped me musically consists of approximately ten people, James BrownMichael Jackson and Prince are all equally my number ones; it's a three-way tie.

“Because of Prince, I will take any dare and survive the dare,” he continued. “My manager Ian threw the idea (for the tribute mix) at me late last night and I said let’s do it; so we plugged in and did it (real DJ’s do real things)! I should've done three hours instead of one. It was unscripted and unrehearsed, but the outcome obviously touched my soul and I hope it does the same for you. Rest in Purple, Prince.”
