Even before he inked a deal with Motown/Capitol, Malachiae Warren had amassed a serious social media following with more than 130K followers on Twitter and 100k on IG thanks to his underground hits like the Migos assisted “Thank Yo Momma.”
With his major label debut EP Heard You Was In My City earlier this month, the Atlanta-bred crooner dropped off the sultry visuals to the project’s first single “Minute Maid,” premiering exclusively on BET.com. Malachite (or Chiae as he’s also known) calls the song a reflection of his growth as an artist.
“Minute Maid is really a reflection of me evolving musically and just getting more experience. On the record I’m talking about a female who comes through, who’s confident and knows what she wants. As far as the title, ‘Minute Maid’ is just a different way to say you got the flavor or the juice, but putting a young feel to it,” he said.
As for the video, which was directed by Payne Lindsey and shot in Atlanta, the 19-year-old says it was tailor-made to fit the concept of the song and is something that will resonate with both men and women.
“We had a fun time shooting the video. There was a lot of different wardrobe and set changes. It’s completely different from any other video that I’ve done,” noted Chiae. “We shot it in Atlanta and it was directed by Payne, who does most of my videos. We just wanted the vibe of the video to match the song. A dark sexy movie experience. It turned out dope and I think it’s something that both girls and guys can appreciate.”
