Mother's Day weekend in Chicago ended with four fatalities and 22 injured from gun violence. One of the victims was a mother who was shot at a family gathering Friday afternoon. Summer Moore, 37, who had three children, was struck right before 8 p.m. in a front yard right after seeing her niece off to a prom.
On Sunday, a teen's life was taken by a fatal bullet in the left side of his chest at 3:40 p.m., according to NBC Chicago. Another victim, a 25-year-old man, was killed after two individuals opened fire on him, exited in a van and fled the scene on Saturday afternoon.
The fourth victim, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead after authorities found his body with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday that the Chicago police department has confiscated more than 2,000 illegal guns so far in 2014. Last year, they collected more than 6,800 in total.
