President Obama Gets His Very Own Twitter Account

POTUS will tweet for himself from here on out.

Published May 18, 2015

Remember all those times you wish you could you really know what the President was thinking? Well, now you can get a peek. President Barack Obama has finally been granted his own Twitter account, which he will run himself.

The 44th president of the United States took to Twitter to announce the good news from his new account, @POTUS.

His first tweet, “Hello, Twitter! It's Barack. Really! Six years in, they're finally giving me my own account.

Barely up for 20 minutes, the President has already gained nearly 70,000 followers.

However, he’s only following a lucky 65. And just who does President Obama follow? The First Lady, of course, among a host of other White House officials.

His former account, @barackobama, was run by the Organizing for Action staff.

If you’ve never tried to before, here’s your chance to get some one-on-one convo with the President. Who knows? Maybe he’ll DM you a response.

So go follow the President now and show him some love.
