A 15-year-old in Spokane, Wash., has been busted for running a full-fledged prostitution ring with his 17-year-old brother out of his mother’s home, NBC affiliate KHQ reports.
The boy, whose identity has to be concealed because of his age, has been facilitating sex with underage girls. Police first began investigating the duo when the older brother was involved in a shooting in February. Authorities believed those arrested in connection with the shooting threatened witnesses in an effort to get them not to speak to officials. As a result, police began tapping the phones in the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center, where the 17-year-old was held, which led them to an entirely different set of crimes.
Authorities said that while tapping the lines, they heard the older brother tell his younger brother everything needed to run a prostitution ring.
“Make them think they're going to be reimbursed, even if they're not" and "Treat them right, that way they stay around, and make sure they do the calls,” they said in conversations, according to court documents.
Once police uncovered the operation, they set up a meeting with the girls in question. One girl explained that the boys’ mother was in on it, using a lot of the money that she made to help post bail for the eldest brother who's bail was set at $175,000.
While working on their prostitution investigation, police saw another case with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office for a robbery that occurred during one of the prostitution calls. The Sheriff deputies say that a “john” was beaten and robbed of $400 for which they believe the youngest brother is responsible for. The youngest brother is being held at the Spokane County Jail on $175,000 bail.
Both brothers face several charges.
