[Watch] Massive Lunchtime Brawl Breaks Out at Los Angeles High School

Something major went down at prom.

More than just a lunch room food fight.
A massive brawl that involved 40 students broke out at Los Angeles's Sylmar High School on Monday, believed to have been a result of flaring tensions that started at the school's prom over the previous weekend. The fight, which was between Black and Hispanic students, left many with minor injuries, though thankfully no one was taken to the hospital.

12 officers responded to the school to break up the fight that broke out during the school's lunchtime.

Check out footage from the melee that one witness called "just uncontrollable."

In the video, the mayhem is evident as people run into one another while fighting. Screams can be heard in the background as school officials and police officers try to tear students away from one another. It seems like a truly terrifying experience as fights ignite, end and then restart just as quickly as they ended.

According to reports, the fight lasted for about 20 minutes and left numerous students with bruises, black eyes and open wounds.

KTLA 5 News reported that the ruckus was gang-related. School officials were aware of flaring tensions between Black and Hispanic students at prom and were worried that something like this would occur.

After the fight, principle James Lee sent out a letter to parents to inform them of the brawl and to ensure them that the students involved in the fight will face disciplinary action. In the letter, Lee wrote, "Multiple students participated in a conflict during lunch on campus." He added that, "Disciplinary actions have been taken" and parents of the students involved have been contacted.
