[Watch] Black Girls Rock Haters? This Children's Show Flagrantly Dissed Afros

The shocking clip was buried last year, but resurfaced online.

Racism is taught early, and it sometimes it comes from unexpected — and unintentional — places. A clip from a Nickelodeon cartoon is going viral online because it blatantly demeans natural Black hair. While the cartoon was since edited to remove the offensive bit, the internet clearly never forgets.

The original version of WINX, from Season 1 Episode 12, shows a character lamenting her normally straight hair puffing up into an afro. "Normally it's straight. I was just walking down the hall and — poof! — my whole head of hair popped up just like that," she cries. 

If that wasn't bad enough, in the next moment, the character's friend (who appears to be white) reaches over and touches the girl's 'fro without so much as asking permission, and then recoils in horror at the texture. Watch the offensive scene, below:

Hopefully, by acknowledging racially demeaning comments like these, they can help spread more positive views on natural beauty.
